Is it really true or just a statement? Thirty nine major retail chains have joined the price-reduction campaign by absorbing the six percent Goods and Service Tax (GST) and more are expected to jump on the bandwagon.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism minister, Datuk Seri Hasan Malek praised them, saying that he hoped to see other business entities emulate their noble efforts.
He said a supermarket in Kuala Lumpur had not only reduced the prices of many items by up to 80 percent but also absorbed the GST. Hasan said the price-reduction campaign would be extended to restaurants and hotels nationwide by the end of the month.
He reiterated that the service charge could only be imposed by hotels and restaurants which had collective agreements with employees. He added that operators were required to put up a notice at their premises to inform customers.
// Let’s wait and see about that. If it is true, then how about small mini market? Will they follow as many low income people buy at the mini market nearby.
