McDonald’s CEO Responds to 9 Year Old Girl Claim

It is not a personal finance but I really like this news. It is about a 9 year old girl accused McDonald of trying to ‘trick kids into eating food that isn’t good for them’. That brave kid Hannah Robetson, 9 come with her mom from Kelowna, British Columbia to attend McDonald’s annual shareholder meeting last Thursday in Oak Brook, III.
During the question and answer part of the meeting, the girl read

“Something that I don’t think is fair is when big companies try to trick kids into eating food that isn’t good for them by using toys and cartoon characters,” “If parents haven’t taught their kids about healthy eating then the kids probably believe that junk food is good for them because it might taste good.”
“It would be nice if you stopped trying to trick kids into wanting to eat your food all the time,”

Don Thompson, CEO of McDonald’s Corp get question from Hannah

“Mr. Thompson, don’t you want kids to be healthy so they can live a long and happy life?”

Thompson answer the question

“First off, we don’t sell junk food, Hannah,”
My kids also eat McDonald’s. When they were about your size, to my son who is with us today, who was a little bit bigger, he was a football player, and also they cook with me at home. I love to cook. We cook a lot of fruits and veggies at home.”

In my opinion, she’s braze and clever but in real world we’ve been tricked everyday. It is not just from McDonald but many more advertisement. I think the best way is educate our son/daughter properly. Education and experience could help us from being trick by the advertisement. Otherwise, just throw away tv and live in your own.

  1. hahaha, i love question from Hannah and answer from Thompson. Basically we can’t accuse McD, they sell fast food. The parent should teach their child that fast food must be taken less than other food and we must consume a lot of fruits and veggies. Not teach their child to accuse McD, hehehee
